Why West Virginia's Winning The Race To Get COVID-19 Vaccine Into Arms

On Dec. 14, West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice was one of the first U.S. elected officials to get immunized against COVID-19. The state has since completed a first round of shots in all long-term care facilities, as well as front-line health workers.

To get vaccine into long-term care facilities, West Virginia was the only state to opt out of a federal partnership with CVS and Walgreens. Instead, a network of smaller pharmacies got a jump start.
